The 2024 Arizona Diamondbacks are attempting to make back-to-back World Series appearances for the first time in their franchise history.
The Diamondbacks are known for their young roster and exciting superstars along with their chaotic play style.
The motto of the Diamondbacks 2023 season was “Embrace the Chaos” and that chaos was caused by their young and dynamic players.
The 2023 title run was considered a shock to many and a Cinderella story to all, but a year later it seems like that run wasn’t a shock but a glimpse of the D-Backs’s near future.
Although last year’s playoff run relied heavily upon the speed and chaos caused by the D-Backs’s baserunning, this year’s team is using a much simpler approach to win games: score.
And score they do, as they are not only among the top 5 teams in the MLB in almost every single offensive category and they are leading the league in runs scored and batted in.
Diamondbacks Reporter Alex Weiner said the Diamondbacks have “the best offense in baseball right now and has been for two months through a combination of lineup depth, power, and building innings.”
Since the All-Star Break, the D-Backs have been on a tear, winning 29 of their last 42 and scoring an average of 7 runs a game.
The D-Backs are arguably the hottest team in baseball and they’re doing it without their most important players.
All-Stars Ketel Marte, Gabriel Moreno, and Gold Glove-winning Christian Walker are only some of the key players the D-Backs have had to endure on the injured list.
Before Walker went on the injury list he said to a group of reporters in the locker room postgame that, “this last stretch has been great (and) the confidence is high for sure.”
One part of the Diamondbacks game that goes unrecognized and underappreciated is their superb defense.
The Diamondbacks led the league in fielding percentage and had the lowest number of errors committed in the MLB both this and last season.
Magnificent defense gives the Diamondbacks a significant advantage over their opponents.
Sports Illustrated Reporter Jake Oliver said, “Moreno was by far the best defender at the catcher position. Perhaps then, it was no surprise that Moreno won the Gold Glove for NL Catchers in 2023. He became the first D-backs catcher to win a Gold Glove Award.”
This impressive team is led by 2023 Coach of the Year nominee, Torey Lovullo and his amazing staff.
Lovullo has been with this organization for 8 years and The Diamondbacks organization has stuck with him through thick and thin.
He is consistently positive and always gives the players their flowers and recognition. Lovullo is arguably one of the best managers in the MLB and will continue to lead this young and thriving team into success.
Following an 8-5 comeback win against the New York Mets, in a postgame presser, Lovullo praised rookie Corbin Carroll when he said, “Corbin Carroll absolutely picked us up with one swing of the bat.”
At the end of the day, another World Series appearance doesn’t seem so out of reach and neither does winning it.
The Diamondbacks have proved to be a team not to be taken lightly in the postseason and with this year’s new potent offense, their juggernaut pitching, and stellar defense, they are sure to cause chaos in this year’s MLB postseason.
