Olympic Gold Medalist Imane Khelif, a professional boxer, won her medal fairly and did not deserve the sexist attacks that came her way as she competed for Olympic glory.
Khelif has faced unjustifiable hate because of her success.
She was born, raised, and competed as a woman her whole life.
People have a right to question athletes and how they compete but without proof and when they use wild, made up claims to do this, it’s not right.
Khelif was questioned due to her masculine features and her impressive strength in the ring, yet no evidence was presented to back these claims.
Thomas Bach, Olympic Boxing Committee President, even said, “there was never any doubt about Khelif being a woman. She has always competed in women’s divisions and there’s no indication that she identifies as transgender or intersex.”
Although people have a right to their own opinion, someone’s verifiable gender is not a matter of opinion — it doesn’t dispute the facts.
Hours before Khelif’s second match, her opponent, Hungarian Anna Luca Hamori, played into the allegations as well, hoping for a free pass to the next round.
Even some public figures have made ignorant statements towards the boxing situation.
J.K Rowling, author of Harry Potter, made comments about Italian Boxer Angela Carnini because she supposedly lost “unfairly” to Khelif in the first round.
Carnini quit her match fairly.
”A young female boxer has just had everything she’s worked and trained for snatched away because you allowed a male to get in the ring with her; you’re a disgrace, your ‘safeguarding’ is a joke, and #Paris24 will be forever tarnished by the brutal injustice done to Carnini” tweeted Rowling.
Rowling claims Khelif “unfairly won” without providing any evidence.
It was Rowling that unfairly threw a punch at Khelif.
Prior to the Olympics Khelif was fairly unknown; meanwhile, Rowling has sold over 500 million copies of novels, and has over 14 million followers on X.
A woman of this stature and clout has no business throwing transphobic, misogynistic –and again verifiably false — claims around on the internet.
It’s not just her making these outrageous claims either, even our Former President Donald Trump and Famous Entrepreneur Elon Musk have spoken out against Khelif.
Some people think just because of their status they are right, but only false pretenses and opinions are on the side of their debate.
Khelif still had three rounds of Olympic competition in front of her, and there was no need for a media uproar to exist over false claims.
This controversy has had, and will continue to have, a major effect on the future of the Olympics.
Many athletes will begin to be unfairly judged and accused of insane allegations.
In order to avoid unneeded judgment towards athletes something needs to change. Testosterone testing or possibly more proof of sex at birth should be presented.
Obviously wasn’t enough done in the olympics to test for eligibility, as multiple athletes along with Imane Khelif will continue to be unfairly prosecuted in some type of way.
