Most highschool students could be characterized as lazy and lackluster.
They drag their feet in the hallway and often wouldn’t be able to name the person next to them.
We have become increasingly less involved in our fraternity as Slope students.
However, Student Body President Allison Baker has stepped up to the plate this year and committed herself to being the best leader for the Vikings as possible.
In the election last spring, Baker rallied so much support, she practically held school spirit on her back.
She is always eager to help her fellow classmates and takes impressive initiative to integrate herself into the Viking community.
Everyday, Baker enriches the highschool experience across campus.
From STUCO to Green Team, she shows genuine passion to elevate the school everyday.
Making a point to socialize with everyone, she continues to build support for the school.
When asked how she ran such a successful campaign she said, “I just talked to a lot of people about it…I tried to reach a really diverse population because we have one of the most diverse schools in the district, so I wanted to show that I just care about the values of everyone at Slope.”
Clearly, it worked.
Her vivacious personality and ability to take charge has won her the favor of the Vikings here at Slope.
STUCO Sponsor Leah Clark said, “Allison is inclusive and positive and wants everybody here to have the best experience and when you’re that type of person, people just gravitate towards you.”
Having a positive attitude can change everything, and Baker has definitely mastered it.
You can always catch her complimenting someone in the halls or helping a freshman to class.
“I find that having a positive attitude and showing kindness are just two of the most important things someone can bring to the table because when you’re welcoming, it just allows people to be themselves,” Baker said.
She has the charm, and she follows it up with her dedication to the school.
She makes a great leader and is an exemplary student overall.
Baker said her priorities lie in her council and furthering our Viking’s education because, “I know that that is the most important thing for everyone here.”
In fact, no one believes in the power that groups like STUCO can have more than Allison Baker.
She sees a bigger difference to make than what first meets the eye.
Baker thinks the “political examination and the conversation of politics” in highschools ensures the freedom of speech and consideration of student input into public schooling.
“It’s really important to have everyone’s voices be heard. I think that Sunnyslope should always remain a place where people can freely express themselves,” Baker said.
She added that “political sessions and voting” is crucial for highschoolers to experience as they enter adulthood, “it’s really important to know how these conversations work in the real world”, Baker said.
Finally, she finds the strength to do all of these things for herself by her biggest inspiration, “The person that inspires me to make my decisions is my mom, because she is a proud business opener, and I’m so proud of her…she inspires me to take things on head first,” Baker said.
Allison Baker has earned her title as Student Body President.
She leads with grace and has left her long lasting impression on her fellow peers.
If you know her, you love her, and if you don’t, you’ve certainly heard it from the people who do.
