A whole new persona, a whole new color palette, a whole new sound.
Tyler, The Creator continues to satisfy audiences with his most recent album Chromakopia.
Chromokopia is Tyler’s most self-reflective album.
This attempts to further isolate himself from his old more vulgar music now that he’s in his 30’s.
Tyler reflects on many topics, most prominently fatherhood.
This is explored in reflective songs such as LIKE HIM and HEY JANE.
This creates an interesting fusion between Tyler’s longing for his father, and dealing with the shock of an unexpected pregnancy from the point of view of him and his partner.
Production wise, this album incorporates a fusion of Cherry Bomb and IGOR.
The production of Cherry Bomb was considered more dirty, angry, and moody while the production of IGOR is a very traditional pop record.
Tyler is able to fuse these concepts into an experimental-hip-hop album, utilizing new sounds in a nonconventional way.
Notable issues in Chromakopia are the repetition of certain themes and the length of some of the songs.
Something that makes one of his other albums IGOR so good is the meaning behind each song along with the albums brief length.
Songs like I THINK and ARE WE STILL FRIENDS hold the audience’s attention while some songs on Chromakopia such as I KILLED YOU and TOMORROW lack interesting themes.
While neither song is horrible, the repetition of topics disrupts the narrative being made in the album.
Besides some of the choices that were deliberately made, Tyler has done it again.
He continues to deliver consistent albums that are full of hits.
Throughout the years his music has shown the progression being made in the music industry.
Chromakopia released on October 28th, 2024. You can find Chromakopia on all music streaming services and his tour is coming to Phoenix on March 12th, 2025.
