Former President Donald Trump was shot at by Small-Business Owner Ryan Routh on the afternoon of September 15th, while golfing at the Trump International Golf Club in Palm Beach. This occurred just months after a previous attempt on Trump’s life, which took place on July 15th.
Routh was stationed in a bush at the Trump International golf club where the Secret Service reportedly witnessed a rifle barrel protruding from a bush after being found. After shots were fired at Trump, a highway chase began.
CNN interviewed nearby witnesses.
“We saw multiple officers starting to speed up behind us,” Motorist Daniel Rodriguez said. “We saw a black Nissan speed up and merge in and out of traffic. We saw a helicopter flying in the air and many more police [officers started] to appear. Then, a state trooper pulled over and stopped the traffic lane,” Rodriguez said.
Apprehended in traffic, Routh’s reasoning for the assassination attempt continued to develop with an increasingly obvious discontent with Trump’s actions and policies.
The intention behind the alleged assassination attempt was ambiguous until the arrest of Routh which revealed incriminating possessions.
Routh, before attempting his assassination, wrote a manifesto-style letter apologizing for “Fail[ing] you” as well as calling for someone else to “finish the job” if he were unable to.
Routh has also expressed himself as an avid defender of Ukraine.
“I AM WILLING TO FLY TO KRAKOW AND GO TO THE BORDER OF UKRAINE TO VOLUNTEER AND FIGHT AND DIE…Can I be the example We must win,” Routh said in an X post in March 2022.
In an attempt to defend his father’s actions, Ryan Routh’s Son Oran Routh said everything has “just been blown out of proportion” and that it’s not like his father “to do anything crazy, much less violent.” He calls his father “a loving, caring father, and honest, hardworking man.”
Most recently, Ryan Routh has pled not guilty to the charge of his assassination attempt.
