Each year since 2008, a select few seniors in Sunnyslope’s Sports-Medicine program have received a roll of golden tape signifying their dedication to Sunnyslope athletics.
This year, the recipients of the award were Amaya Sweat, Mia Lashley, Bailey Norwood, Gicelda Chaidez, Aubrey Wilson, and Jeniah Perkins.
The golden roll is an award started by Head Athletic Trainer Neil Pulver to recognize the commitment that Sports-Med seniors have given to Sunnyslope throughout their time on the staff.
The recipients of the award have done an enormous amount of work in the name of Sunnyslope’s Sports-Med organization.
Pulver said, “To receive this award means that you have been in the program for at least 2 years and have anywhere between 350-2000 community service hours.”
The award also carries a lot of weight for the seniors who receive it.
Senior Bailey Norwood said, “To me the golden tape represents my time and commitment throughout the past four years and the amount of hours I put in learning how to properly tape patients.”
Other members of Sports-Med credit the seniors for their leadership and ability to keep things running smoothly.
“The seniors contribute so much to sports med and work the hardest to make sure everything is getting done,” said Junior Sophia Salem.
The senior’s impact on the group is tremendous, and they will be missed once they graduate this spring.
Junior Ava Hylton said, “I will miss all of them and the football practices, laughs, away games, and food runs but they all deserve the golden tape with their hard work and dedication to sports medicine!!”
For many of the staff, Sports-Med is the place where they’ve learned new skills and made endearing friendships.
“Sports-Med as a group is something fun and exciting and I gained lots of new experiences from it, not only with medical obligations but also communication with the team,” said Norwood.
Throughout their years in the program, the seniors made their impact known and have made sure Sunnyslope athletes stay safe.
Pulver said, “I am proud of all of them and know they have put in the time and dedication to the Sunnyslope Sports Medicine Club. They make a difference in the care of Sunnyslope Athletes.”
The future is bright for these outstanding seniors!
