ASU Football had a sensational 2024-25 season, going 11-3, winning the Big 12, and arguably one targeting call away from winning the Peach Bowl.
ASU Football Running Back Cameron Skattebo had arguably one of the best performances ever as a running back in The Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl while being physically sick and vomiting multiple times on the sideline.
Skattebo said after the game “It’s awesome that I was able to play football for and with them. And I’m just happy to be in the position I am in, and for [Coach Kenny Dillingham] to put me in a role to be successful.”
Dillingham took over ASU’s football program in November of 2022, and in two years, transformed it into a respectable program that is now attracting and recruiting great players and respected among the college football community.
Dillingham is loved and respected by his players because he’s so complimentary of them and pushes them to be the best people they can be.
Dillingham said after a win against nationally ranked opponent BYU, “This is all about the guys, these guys battled, these guys fought, these guys found a way to win and it doesn’t matter whatever happened at the end, it happened.”
ASU had 4 wins over ranked opponents throughout the season, including wins over BYU and Iowa State, who they beat in the Big 12 Championship Game.
The Big 12 is one of the most competitive conferences as Dillingham said, “I just think the difficulty is not just the teams, but it’s the environments you go into as well, which is why the Big 12 consistently, you know, people lose one or two games in the league because it’s just so competitive.”
ASU Quarterback Sam Leavitt is a name you don’t want to forget mentioning when talking about this team- Leavitt had an incredible season throwing for over 2,800 yards, rushing for over 500 yards, and throwing 24 touchdowns.
When talking about Leavitt, Dillingham said, “He’s a dog, that’s it. He’s a great player. Everyone should be … excited about the fact that you have an NFL-level player in your state in the flagship school right in the town for three more years.”
Other notable players throughout the season included Wide Receiver Jordan Tyson, Wide Receiver Xavier Guillory, Safety Shamary Simmons, and Defensive Back Xavion Alford.
Tyson said about himself, “I feel as a player, I think I’ve grown so much mentally. Not letting little stuff make me mad. I went through a lot and my mind was kind of out of it. Just bringing back that mentality back into me and just staying with the good stuff and what I need to focus on.”
Tyson also complimented Leavitt’s play, saying, “Sam’s just a dog, he’s a proven winner. Whenever the game is on the line, whenever we need to play, whenever we need to drive, put it on Sam’s shoulders and he’ll get it done.”
Arguably, the best prospect on ASU’s roster is Skattebo.
He is projected to be a third-round draft pick, but after his monster game in the College Football Playoffs, nobody would be surprised to see him go earlier.
Anonymous NFL Executives said, “All 32 NFL franchises should want Skattebo on their roster after the Texas game. He almost single-handedly won Arizona State that football game while struggling to remain upright.”
All in all, this season is one to remember for everyone involved and should be a great catapult for the next generation of ASU Football which will be even more explosive and fun to watch.
