It is the opening night of the final dance show of the year. The crowd is buzzing with excitement. Families and friends waiting with flowers in hand to present to the dancers. The soft chatter filled the auditorium with noise. Eager dancers waiting behind wings, butterflies filling their stomachs. Seniors taking their final breaths before their last high school show. The lights begin to dim and the voices go to a halt. The show begins.
Dancers who have been preparing for the show for months finally get to show everyone what their hard work has been for. For some, being proud of hitting their dance was enough, but others have more to be proud of.
Sophomore Katie Mitchell said she was “most proud of staying on stage after forgetting [her] solo because [she] didn’t know whether to run off stage or keep going and [she] had to decide right there and then.” Motivation is huge for dancers of all ages and of all different abilities.
“Before the curtain went up, I was just telling myself to stay confident and use my facials,” Freshman Jayla Strange stated before her role as Michelle Obama in the dance, Boss.
As these dancers continue growing throughout their years, their legacy lives on through others. Dance Teacher MJ stated, “I think their legacy is really persevering through anything because these kids are so involved in different activities, groups, clubs, or just work. They all live very different lives, and yet their passion… just shows through how hard they work and their dedication to it.” Although these dancers come from very different backgrounds they are all connected through the work they put into dance.
After months of dedication, the dancers finally got to put on their final show of the year. The dance show showed their true passion for the art and how committed they were to the show and to each other. As the shows wrap up and dancers take their final bows, the auditorium is lit up with excitement and emotion. The dancers left everything they could on stage.
