Real life is boring and often difficult to maneuver.
But sometimes, all it takes is a closer look.
A man named Steve did just that in A Minecraft Movie as he finds his way into an adventurous, creative, and imaginative world called “Minecraft,” where he may do whatever he wants.
A Minecraft Movie immerses the audience quickly by exposing them to the misfit group of characters via their real-life struggles.
One character, Steve, was trying to release his imagination in real life but was being held down by a dull office worker’s life.
Another main character, Henry, is a smart kid at Chuglass High School who wants to unleash his intelligence and creativity. Unfortunately, school rules and teaching systems limit his creativity and intelligence.
Natalie is Henry’s legal guardian and older sister, struggling to live independently with Henry in the small Idaho town after their parents sent them there.
Then Dawn, a real estate agent who has to work a separate job as a veterinarian in order to earn enough money for a living, also helps Henry and Natalie when they are buying a house, and then becomes friends with Natalie.
However, Henry meets another main character, Garrett, while away from home for a while.
Garrett has the nickname “Garbage Man,” as he was great at a video game in Chuglass called “Hunk City Rampage,” by using the “Garbage Toss” move to its greatest potential. His struggle is trying to run his shop with limited funds, and often spending it all on auctions in hopes of winning big.
However, Henry discovers an item sitting in his shop that eventually leads them, as well as Dawn and Natalie, once they try to find Henry, into the wondrous world of Minecraft.
The group eventually meets up with Steve inside Minecraft, and the group of five goes through many adventures while Steve introduces them to how creative they’re able to be in this new world of imagination.
Unfortunately, they have encountered the main villains of the movie: the piglins. They are evil pigs from a realm inside of Minecraft called the Nether.
They seek to eliminate all creativity from the world of Minecraft under their leader, “Malgosha,” who seeks the object that brought the main group of misfits into the Minecraft world in order to do so.
A Minecraft Movie is similar to The LEGO Movie, as both include a group of multiple misfits. They both include comedic tones throughout the movie to humour the audience, and use very popular forms of entertainment from people’s childhoods.
A Minecraft Movie is also extremely controversial among the Minecraft community, as Minecraft is a video game that was prominent in many of their childhoods, which elicits mixed reactions from viewers, some believing it wasn’t good enough for Minecraft, some saying it was just okay, and some praising it as the best.
A Minecraft Movie will be available soon on HBO Max and is showing in many theaters around the world.
