The new and exciting journey begins with simple yet confusing sounds that slowly shape into meaningful conversations. Each new word is like a step on the bridge of connecting a rich and vibrant culture to what is used and easy to know.
In Spanish 1-2 with Mr. Hershberger, those first steps into the language opened the door to a colorful new way of understanding the world. His patience and encouragement make the classroom a space where trying, even when you’re unsure, feels safe and exciting.
Mr. Hershberger’s class is a place where students learn a new language, one word and one story at a time. Spanish 1-2 with Mr. Hershberger is like traveling to a new country with the best and kindest tour guide; he knows you might not always have the correct answer, but he’ll make sure your voice is heard and that you understand where you went wrong. He calls on everyone, encouraging participation without social pressure, and helps students build confidence in learning new things as they write creative stories, learn vocabulary and use it in context, and explore the rich and different cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. It’s a class that welcomes and encourages mistakes, celebrates growth, and brings language to life in a way that feels both fun and special.
“He has a very bubbly personality that makes everyone feel comfortable,” Freshman Molly Janson said.
Many students compliment him on his kind ways of making students participate.
“Whenever I answer wrong he plays it off and makes a joke out of it but in such a nice way that i don’t feel bad about it,” Freshman Molly Janson said.
It’s his mix of humor and kindness that turns mistakes into moments of learning.
“It helped me put together sentences and make connections to the new language I was learning, but in a fun way that I was never bored of,” Freshman Maebelle Perkins said.
All his students can tell he truly fosters his students learning and growing, and the only reason someone might not like Hershberger is if they don’t enjoy school at all.
If you’re an incoming freshman or someone who hasn’t taken a language class yet, be sure to tell your counselor to request Mr. Hershberger, his class will not disappoint!
