Walking outside I feel the sun on my skin. Running down the field, feeling the breeze, surrounded by friends, my mind is at ease. I am ready to get my body moving and feel the blood pumping.
Physical education is a way for students to play fun games, exercise, and just have a free class. Kaitlin Windtberg articulated that PE “helps me stay active and have a great time just doing what I love.”
Not only is the class fun but the coaches bring the class to life. With Coach Geer and Coach Jacobs bringing a smile everyday, they are amazing people that make the class even better. Octavia Schlegel thinks “they really make it just such a fun space that makes you want to be there.”
With the coaches, classmates, and activities it is a chance to ditch the desk and get moving. After sitting through class, it feels awesome to just run around. The class is like a reset but in the middle of the day, and it leaves you feeling refreshed and energized. Vivienne Won states that her mental and physical health were “tremendously improved during the class.”
PE helps in the present, and in the future. We learn stuff that I can actually use in life. Teamwork, strategy, staying active, skills that help you way beyond the classroom. Also we learn about mental and physical health, also about working out and eating healthy.
Finally, PE is just plain fun. It’s a break from all the stress of tests and homework, where you can hang out with your friends, try new things, and maybe even discover a sport you love. It’s the one class where you can laugh, sweat, and actually look forward to showing up.
Everyone gets to experience this class freshman year, and even request to have advanced PE the following year.
