A cheerful face saying “bonjour” to students as they pass in the hall. A classroom filled with posters and pictures of past students, where the CD player is always on. Students laughing and talking and playing games while still working hard, without a phone or “portable” in sight.
This is the typical scene in French Teacher Angela Kintscher’s classroom. Ms. Kintscher currently teaches French 1-2, 3-4, Honors 5-6, and AP French.
In French class with Ms. Kintscher, students take notes, do activities, play games, take tests, speak the language, read books, write essays, watch movies, have parties, go on field trips, and complete fun projects. All the while, students are learning to speak and understand the French language and French culture.
Ms. Kintscher makes learning French fun and easy. She explains different usages of words and how they fit in French culture to give students a deeper understanding. Additionally, she entertains students with stories from her travels that relate to the content the class is learning.
“Ms. Kintscher always takes the time to explain and guide the class or an individual through a lesson,” said Sophomore French 3-4 Student Layli Farhoumand. “She’s very straightforward yet comes up with fun ways to teach.”
Ms. Kintscher makes students feel welcomed and provides for a comfortable and positive learning environment. Students bond and learn to work together in class to gain a better understanding of the French language.
Students adore Ms. Kintscher, who is truly the heart and soul of the French program and keeps students coming back for more.
“Ms. Kintscher is a teacher that has stayed consistently remarkable for her tenure of over 20 years,” said Senior AP French Student Elliott Andrews.
Andrews detailed how Ms. Kintscher balances schoolwork with silliness, and has a “beautiful soul” that “keeps people coming back for years.”
“She truly is a diamond in a haystack,” said Andrews.
“Ms. Kintscher’s class made me fall in love with French,” added Junior 5-6 French Student Erin O’Connor.
Taking French class with Ms. Kintscher is like stepping into French Disneyland for an hour every day. You never know what kind of adventure you will go on, but you are guaranteed to have fun, even if it’s something you’ve seen before. At the end of the day, learning about French language and culture is always imminent.
Students may opt to take Spanish because it is a more practical language. However, students should also consider the benefits of taking French.
For example, students should consider their personal preferences, and what they think is more fun and interesting to them. Remember when you were a little kid and dreamed of seeing the Eiffel Tower one day?
Also, the French language is used in a variety of countries, which students will learn about in class. Students love learning about culture in French speaking countries, and will naturally become interested in these locales.
Surely, students who choose to take French class at Sunnyslope will not be disappointed.
