Sweaty sneakers are scattered across the gym floor. You can hear the sound of a basketball bouncing, feet running, and people cheering. The air smells like effort and energy. On every jersey is someone trying their best, even if they’re tired or not the fastest. The scratches on the floor and the marks on the walls show how hard we’ve worked and how we keep going, even when it’s tough.
Team-building is a prime example of what a student experiences in CoachSarah Schles and Amber Geer’s P.E. class: making fitness fun and connecting games to real-life challenges.
Coach Schles and Geer’s class is a place where students build strength, improve coordination, learn teamwork, push their limits and even figure out how to enjoy a good warm-up stretch.
Schles and Geer’s class is a place where students connect with friends, enjoy exciting games, and stay active through movement and play.
This class is like being in an episode of American Ninja Warrior; why just watch people compete when you can be the one leaping, sprinting, and scoring?
In Schles and Geer’s P.E. class, students aren’t stuck on the sidelines, they’re racing through relay courses, dodging in dodgeball battles, and laughing with friends like it’s recess all over again, only it’s better.
Schles and Geer make sure that every student is content while participating in P.E.
There are make-up opportunities every Wednesday Learning Center for the students who have missed class, and want to help aid their grade.
For this reason, there aren’t many excuses for having zeros for missing class.
The coaches always show up with bright attitudes and big smiles, creating an upbeat and welcoming environment from the moment class begins. Their positive energy is contagious, and it sets the tone for a fun, active day where students feel encouraged, supported, and excited to participate.
“Geer and Schles have very funny and bubbly personalities and they make learning new things exciting,” Freshman Vega Horne said.
Other students described how fun and easy-going they are.
“They are very encouraging and everytime I step in the gym they make me feel seen and welcome,” Freshman Maebelle Perkins said.
“My favorite part of P.E. was every Friday when we played dodgeball because everyone brought their energy and competition,” Junior Isabel Silva said.
It’s clear that the physical education coaches here at Sunnyslope truly care about students getting stronger, staying active, and having fun. Their passion for teaching and helping students grow makes P.E. a class to look forward to every day.
If you know someone who will be a Freshman at Sunnyslope next year, then tell them about all the great times you had in P.E. the past year!
