Stepping even a foot into room K212 changes your day for the better. From the way they decorate to the energy they have, it is an environment that is safe and comfortable. Relatively new Viking Natalie Parker is a perfect example of this type of teacher. Walking into Parker’s classroom feels like a hug from someone you haven’t seen in a long time, almost a breath of fresh air. The walls are filled with color and the mood is always bright. This makes the class a place students look forward to. Not only do they enjoy the class but they love the teacher. Parker can be described as “nice, encouraging, and fun,” said Freshman Lennix Broderick. Parker strives to make students feel comfortable and confident, in doing so she does one on one after essays to ensure they know how she thinks they can improve and does projects that students actually enjoy. After reading A Long Way Down By Jason Reynolds the class made mind maps after every chapter. This made the book easier to understand for some students and it made people enjoy the book more.“I loved expressing my creative side,” said Freshman Aldijana Bosnjo. This project along with many others are some of the reasons Parker’s class is a fan favorite. The level of support there is in that class is truly unmatched. No matter if it’s a skill you are good at or a skill you excel in, Parker is always supportive. Freshman Wyatt Carbajal said “She treats us like her own.” This truly makes a classroom feel safe and loving. No matter if you enjoy English class or not, this is a class you are sure to love. Make sure to request Mrs. Parker if you are entering English 1-2 or 3-4 next school year.
