As the students enter the classroom, they are hit with German all around such as pronunciation and history, which they quickly see as they observe the classroom. Students finding themselves connected to their peers through the language and a teacher who almost acts like a mother figure towards them, it isn’t just a classroom, it’s a family.
This is what students are hit with when they enter the wonderful and historical class of German 1-2, being taught by the Incredible Mary Walther or better known in her class as “Frau Walther,” Frau being translated to English as Miss. Being in her class can feel like strangers in a room to quickly becoming a family. Ms. Walther treats her students as her own children, she has a really calm attitude and overall is a comforting teacher her students can trust.
“She is an overall wonderful teacher who teaches us how to say words we know in English and translate them into German,” Freshman Juan Rosas Gonzalez said. While many are focused on the aspects of learning how to speak, others have a real fondness of the history through this culture. “We’ve learned many things throughout this year such as one of our main projects, the Berlin Wall,” Freshman Drake Henry-Gettings said. When the classroom focuses on these two things it can really test anyone’s knowledge of really understanding this classroom to a more deeper level. “At the beginning, I didn’t understand anything but when Ms. Walther and my classmates helped me to understand, I slowly started to improve these skills I thought I didn’t have,” Freshman Tredell Mc Intyre said.
Since then Frau Walther has taught many things to gradually get our full understanding of the language. In a sad twist she informed her students that this was ultimately her last year teaching at Sunnyslope, but with her help at hand she found someone who can take her place as our teacher, meeting Monika Dayal or also commonly referred to in the classroom as “Frau Dayal.” Although. Ms. Walther may have left us, Ms. Dayal tries her best and hardest to follow in Ms. Walther’s footsteps and give our class the best teachings she can offer to this school. Be sure to meet your counselor or tell your classmates and any incoming freshman that German 1-2 is always welcoming to any student.
