¿Es importante aprender español? Being bilingual is a vital skill offered to students here at Sunnyslope High school. By far the most popular language class taken here at Slope is Spanish. One of the best classes here at Sunnyslope is AP Spanish Language and Culture taught by Marissa Eckerson.
Throughout the year the class deep dives into hispanic culture within Latin America. This information gives students a wide range of knowledge that prepares them for the College Board Exam in May. For Sophomore Audrey Curtis this class had allowed her to “know more about the Spanish world, and… how things are going on in real life.” For Sophomore Arianna Broderick, the interactive aspects of the class give her the opportunity to produce “good in depth [Spanish] conversations.” Furthermore from the class material itself, Ms. Eckerson has also contributed to the improvement of the students. Curtis said “Ms. Eckerson has taught me high level words, as well as how to use the subjunctive, and how to incorporate complex and compound sentences which has made me a better writer and speaker.” Similarly, Senior Vincent Rocky says Ms. Eckerson has “Contributed greatly” to his improvement by “giving a lot of practice.” Broderick said “Ms. Eckerson gives me good critique so I can make my conversations better for the AP test.” AP Spanish Language is like a guided tour and Ms. Eckerson is like your tour guide; you stop to study Hispanic culture across Latin America while developing crucial academic skills to prepare yourself for the AP exam. If you would like to take this class, you can talk to your counselor for more information.
