Over 75% of the rural Guatemalan population lives in poverty, and 91% of those in extreme poverty.
The average family income in these areas is only $4 a day.
Despite these tragic numbers, the deep hole many Guatemalans are forced into has a bright light at the end of the tunnel.
For many people, this light is the Guatemala Healing Hands Foundation (GHHF).
Their mission is to restore health and provide opportunities for brighter futures.
GHHF has been conducting missions to provide specialized care, education, and therapy to people in Guatemala since 2004.
I even had the opportunity to join these mission trips with my parents when I was an infant.
Since then, I have returned once in middle school, and I plan to return in November of 2025.
The GHHF is raising money for a multitude of things, such as creating support for children and adults with extreme upper extremity deformities due to trauma or a congenital disability.
This matters tremendously because the majority of people can’t afford health services in Guatemala, much less people in the indigenous areas. Luckily, this is where the mission trips go to help the less-fortunate.
Some of this money also goes to community projects such as building schools, digging trenches so fresh water can be supplied to villages, sponsoring education for students, building latrines and installing home appliances, providing clothing and shoes, and distributing fertilizers for crops such as corn and avocado trees.
Most Guatemalan towns don’t have luxuries like these, which is unbelievable to think about as most of these things are necessities of life and are easily accessible to us.
The help needed in Guatemala is great, and so is the opportunity to change the trajectory of underprivileged lives in Guatemala.
By donating to this cause, you are directly putting shoes on children’s feet, giving villages clean water, and providing life-changing medical care to people who wouldn’t get it otherwise; even the smallest help will make a tremendous difference.
Your support won’t just change lives, it will create futures.
