Her head is circling full of thoughts.
One decision has haunted her for years: which brother is the right one for her?
The protagonist in hit television show The Summer I Turned Pretty has to make her own Sophie’s Choice.
The Summer I Turned Pretty follows Belly Conklin through the trials and tribulations of a messy love triangle.
A love triangle entwined with two brothers: Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher.
In season three, Belly is struggling to balance college life with the Fisher boys thrown in the mix.
She is forced to make tough decisions that will affect not only her life, but everyone’s around her as well.
Tough decisions are commonly found in love triangles.
Shows with similar love triangles to The Summer I Turned Pretty are The Vampire Diaries and My Life With The Walter Boys.
All of these shows have love triangles that explore the dynamics and conflicts of the main character falling for a set of brothers.
Instead of fighting monsters like in The Vampire Diaries, Belly faces her own form of evil: cheating, lies, heartbreak, and chaotic families.
Head Show Writer Jenny Han, who also penned the original novel, perfectly writes moments and characters that emotionally entrap the audience.
Each episode ends with you either yelling at your TV or sighing in disappointment.
You feel like you have wasted a precious hour of your life seeing Belly unable to make up her mind.
The choice she has to make is one almost every viewer can answer with no second thought.
If Belly finally makes her decision after all these years, she should choose Future Doctor Conrad over Frat Boy Jereminah.
Others think she should choose to be single.
Despite the views of the fans, Belly is too busy looking through rose-tinted glasses to notice the obvious red flags of her fiancé, Jeremiah.
It seems Jenny Han wants the audience to be Team Conrad by writing Jeremiah’s antics in Mexico, financial choices, and lack of maturity.
Speaking of red flags, almost every character in The Summer I Turned Pretty performs actions that make them unlikable.
Cheating is a huge aspect of the show.
Everyone from Steven to Conrad has cheated or encouraged people to cheat on their significant others.
This makes it progressively harder to root for anyone.
Even as the show takes a wrong turn, many fans retain a glimmer of hope..
A hope that the show can right its many wrongs, and when they turn on the series finale, it will bring them a feeling of fulfillment.
They want to feel as if all the emotions and hours of watching were truly worth it.
Will they feel this?
Only time will tell if the show writers will make this a great finish to a great story.
To find out, you must tune in for the season 3 finale, which will premiere on September 17, 2025.
The Summer I Turned Pretty can be found on Amazon Prime Video.
Episodes are released every Wednesday.
