Sunnyslope Theater’s 2025 fall play will be The Curious Savage.
They will perform four times in late October, according to Theater Director Madeline McDonald.
This year, the production leads will be performed by Senior Lily Stockton, Sophomore Eliana Ball, Freshman Ava Robb, and Junior Ian Rufkhar, among many other talented actors.
While the play is a little while away, the production and casting process has already begun.
Stockton, who will play the lead role of Ethel P. Savage, said “I’ve been in theater for every production since my freshman year. I made my stage debut in Puffs my sophomore year and fell in love with acting. I knew after playing Joan in Dracula that I wanted to be a lead my senior year.”
While others have been a part of theater productions in the past, some are just debuting their high school theater careers.
“I love theater and have been performing for the last few years; however, I am a freshman and this is my first show at Sunnyslope,” said Robb.
Robb is very excited and ready to play an interesting part with lots of character.
The role of Fairy May “is hilarious and also has a lot of depth to her character, and I am looking forward to sharing her story,” said Robb.
Many others, including Robb, are excited about their part in the play.
“I auditioned for the role of Titus Savage, and I’m glad I got the part. It will be a really interesting role to learn about in the next few months,” said Rufkhar.
Learning about the role is not the only exciting part of the production process.
“I’m excited about the cast. I’m already friends with most of the people I’ll be sharing the stage with, and I’m really looking forward to working with all of them,” said Rufkhar.
The auditioning process went smoothly for the students, but it was not so easy on the casting end.
“The casting process is always challenging because we have many talented students that audition, but only a certain number of roles are available, with eleven total roles in this show,” said McDonald.
Although it’s a small cast, they aim to make the play an experience filled with acceptance and kindness.
“The play celebrates those who are often overlooked, emphasizing the virtues of kindness, affection, and empathy in a world that seems at times motivated only by societal expectations, materialism, and dishonesty,” said McDonald.
Each cast member is looking forward to collaborating on such an uplifting team.
“Being part of an awesome team is very exciting. So many people come together with the same goal of creating a memorable show. The cast, crew and tech all rely on each other. We will work hard to bring the playwright’s beautiful words to life. I love the complexity of the plot, and the combination of drama and comedy in this show,” said Ball.
The cast, crew and McDonald will certainly make this show entertaining for the audience.
“I believe audiences will be entertained and moved by this story,” said McDonald.
The productions of Savage will occur on Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm; Friday, October 25 at 7:00 pm; and Saturday, October 26, at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
