The once-beloved novel turned Netflix adaptation, My Life with the Walter Boys, has become a disappointment for many viewers since the release of its highly anticipated second season.
The second season was released on August 28, and the response has been far from enthusiastic.
The season begins with Jackie inevitably arriving back in Colorado, picking her relationships back up where they left off.
Jackie’s ongoing love triangle with Alex and Cole is central to this season, forcing her to choose between the two brothers.
However, this storyline is what makes season two especially unappealing.
By focusing so heavily on the confusing romance that is going nowhere, the series loses sight of other meaningful elements that would enrich the story.
Another reason viewers are left disappointed is that the show fails to capture the audience’s attention.
Jackie’s relationship with both brothers lacks a spark, leaving fans wondering why they are watching the show if it portrays such a lackluster chemistry.
Unlike other popular love triangle dramas such as The Summer I Turned Pretty, this series does not live up to the hype of the brothers’ love triangle trope, leaving the second season feeling flat and predictable.
The storyline has several problematic elements, including Jackie’s unresolved grief and numerous unnecessary love triangles.
This has frustrated viewers because, as mentioned earlier, the storyline had the potential to be far more developed and better written.
There were many opportunities for this show to explore more interesting storylines that involve more in-depth character development.
Examples of this include Jackie’s grief from losing her parents and her cultural heritage, which is only briefly explored throughout the whole series.
These elements could have added depth and character to the show, but they were unfortunately overshadowed by the romance aspects of the show.
While the show does have some enjoyable highlights, season two does not meet expectations, disappointing fans who had waited patiently for the new season.
Still, with a third season already in the works, fans are hopeful for a more satisfying resolution, perhaps even the long-awaited ending where Jackie and Cole finally end up together.
My Life with the Walter Boys is available to watch exclusively on Netflix.
