The Vikings Varsity Volleyball team earned an 11-5 record this year going 5-0 to end the season putting them in a prime position to go far in the state tournament- if not winning it all.

Powered by camaraderie and determination, this team won the Nike Tournament of Champions and beat tough out of state schools such as Marymount (CA) and The Bishop’s School (CA).

The team has high aspirations going into the playoffs, as they believe if they play their best, they can beat anyone.

“I feel we can win state if we just play our best games throughout the playoffs and not let them [the other team] get into our heads,” said Sophomore Player Zoe Haan.

This Goal solidified after a nail-biting win against the then number one ranked Sandra Day O’Connor Eagles.

“I first felt that we actually had a shot at winning the championship when we beat the number one ranked team in five sets and that’s very exciting,” said Haan.

This, coupled with dominating tournaments throughout the valley built team confidence.

“Winning the tournaments really helped us know we can achieve bigger things- and I think that really helps,” said Haan.

To achieve the lofty goals that this team has, they have had to improve day-in and day-out. Luckily, they did just that.

“ This team has gotten better through practices and feeling the in-game experience,” said Haan.

Along with individual improvements, the volleyball team has built exceptional team chemistry through years of playing together and being friends which is reflected by their impressive ranking of eighth in state.

“Our chemistry is actually incredible this year because everyone gets along and we’re all friends outside of volleyball too, so that helps a lot more in practices and games” said Haan.

With the playoffs starting at home on November third, this special volleyball team is ready to compete for the trophy and cement their legacies as one of Sunnyslope’s greatest teams.
