On March 26, local rock band Pinup released their first album: Test Your Luck.
This album is a mix between screamo and quieter, lyrically charged songs that all have a distinct guitar presence.
The album all together is thirty three minutes long.
Test Your Luck includes Thorns which runs at two minutes and thirty-three seconds.
Thorns was also Pinup’s first released single on Spotify and Apple Music that is now included on their album; this song was played at their previous shows along with Spoonful of Sunshine, and XoXo.
All these songs are now immortalized on Test Your Luck.
Their song Breach and Spoonful of Sunshine showcases Vocalist Nadia Gonzalez’s range.
Tide is featured on their album which contains Gonzalez’s vocals layered on top of Vocalist Manny Ibarbo’s voice, adding a sharp touch to their sound and creating something truly unique about the band’s musical style.
Listeners experience a whirlwind of emotions because of the diversity in the album, so it’s guaranteed that you’ll find a song you enjoy.
Test Your Luck ranges from fast pace to slower paced songs but both kinds of songs bring out the various styles Pinup has.
Listening to In Limbo, which is a heavier rock song, you hear that Ibarbo is the predominant vocalist that highlights every part of the band from drums to electric guitar and bass; On flip side, their song: Drop B, is a balancing act between Gonzalez’s vocals and Ibarbo’s vocals that’s accompanied by heavy drums in the background and bass solo. Ultimately, both voices compliment each other very well.
If you are an enjoyer of the alternative to screamo music genres, this band is something to look into.
What’s cool about Pinup is that they’re a local band that regularly has intimate shows at small venues across The Valley where you can appreciate their music up close.
