Coach Allie Biedermann is coaching the new and upcoming girls’ flag football starting with off season practices to get ready for the season in the fall.
Every morning the girls are practicing and working hard out on the Sunnyslope football field.
There has never been a girl’s flag football team at Sunnyslope which is why Biedermann is trying to get as many girls involved as possible.
Coach Biedermann says she believes this opportunity is, “unique because it’s a level playing field and so anybody that has athletic ability gets to try to see if they can, you know, be a part of this team.”
Our school’s flag football coach is the reason why so many girls have new opportunities for social life, to be more involved in the school, push themselves, and maybe even to build their future.
Freshman football player Andrew Ben says that he believes our team can make it far this season because he has “faith in Sunnyslope.”
The students of Sunnyslope have a lot of pride because of our amazing athletes.
Charis Iosefo ‘29 explains the reason she decided to be a part of the practices is because “it sounded like something new and fun” and she was excited to be part of “Sunnyslope’s first ever flag football team.”
A new sport and a new team to represent our school is very special, especially to the girls deciding to play.
Theatre star and freshman Ava Robb says she would love to come and support our flag football team because she “loves supporting women’s sports.”
Girls supporting girls is how we can make sure this team continues to thrive.
When asked what her biggest concerns for the team were, Iosefo ‘29 says, “I guess my main concern would be like the physical risks that come with it… and a big thing would be that the sport doesn’t get enough support or attention, making it end before it even starts.”
Flag football may not involve tackling, but the sport is still very physically demanding.
Coach Biedermann answers her small concerns for her future team, “I mean I think it’s going to be challenging because there are other teams that have already been doing this for years and that also gives me hope because other teams are still new and the girls who have been playing are still newer.”
Even with slight concerns, Coach Biedermann still has undeniable faith in her girls to make it far this season.
Iosefo ‘29 says playing flag football is “an amazing opportunity to show that girls can play boy’s sports too and it’s a way to represent Sunnyslope’s new era.”
Flag football is very empowering to the girls who are playing and gives the girls a new opportunity.
Coach Biedermann says, “I think being a part [it], you’re basically creating a legacy because this is the first time this has ever happened at Sunnyslope.”
The girls deciding to be a part of this new team will leave a lasting impact that will hopefully forever imprint Sunnyslope’s future generations.
