The Los Angeles Dodgers prevailed over the Toronto Blue Jays with the series ending 4-3 on November 1, according to ESPN.
Dodgers Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named MVP of the World Series in a back-and-forth string of events, having two of the seven games go into extra innings, with one tying for the longest inning game and the second longest game time-wise in the history of a World Series.
The World Series is an influential event for many, such as Sunnyslope Baseball Player Kaiko Wyrybkowski, who said, “I follow up with the World Series because the Dodgers are my favorite team and I’ve been a fan ever since I was a little kid.”
Many fans grow up with a team, so when their team reaches the World Series, they become even more passionate.
Sunnyslope Baseball Player Liam Marschall said, “It’s a roller coaster of emotions, an adventure, baseball fans are die hard when it comes to their teams, and these teams, especially one being from Canada and one being from the United States, the biggest city there is for baseball in LA, there’s a lot of energy watching the World Series.”
Commencing the MLB World Series, the Blue Jays dominated the first game 11-4, scoring nine runs in the sixth inning.
Dodgers Player Shohei Ohtani aided the Dodgers by getting a home run.
Still, all in all, it was incomparable to Blue Jays Player Addison Barger, who hit the first-ever pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history.
In Game Two, the Dodgers tied up the series by winning 5-1 with two home runs.
Blue Jays Player George Springer was the only one to score for his team that night, but overall, Yamamoto pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters, securing the win for the Dodgers.
After winning Game Two, the Dodgers kept the momentum going by ending the third game of the series 6-5 in an eighteen-inning game.
Dodgers Player Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off home run while leading off the eighteenth inning to end the game.
In the fourth inning, Blue Jays Player Alejandro Kirk hit a three-run home run that gave Toronto the lead.
Still, it was eclipsed by Ohtani, who had a historic performance with two home runs, two doubles, and reached the base nine times, becoming the first player ever to do so in the postseason.
The game lasted six hours and thirty-nine minutes, making it tied for the longest game in World Series history by innings.
Toronto took the momentum away in game four, tying up the series with a 6-2 win.
Blue Jays player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run home run in the third inning, giving Toronto a 2-1 lead.
The seventh inning was decisive for Toronto, scoring four runs to secure the game with key hits by Blue Jays players Andrés Giménez, Bo Bichette, and Addison Barger.
In Game Five, the Blue Jays took the lead of the series by winning 6-1, with Blue Jays Player Davis Schneider hitting the ground running with a home run on the very first pitch.
Only two pitches later, Guerrero Jr. hit a home run of his own to create the first time in World Series history that a game has started with back-to-back home runs.
In the bottom of the third, Dodgers player Enrique Hernández hit a home run to cut the deficit to 2–1 going into the fourth.
Blue Jays Rookie Pitcher Trey Yesavage struck out twelve batters, only allowing one run while on the mound.
To force a Game Seven, the Dodgers overcame the Blue Jays 3-1 in Toronto’s own stadium.
The Dodgers scored all three of their runs in the third inning, with Dodgers Player Will Smith hitting an RBI double, getting Dodgers Player Tommy Edman home safe, followed by Dodgers Player Mookie Betts, who allowed Ohtani and Smith to get a run each, putting them up 3-0 in Game Six.
Yamamoto delivered an outstanding performance once again across six innings, only allowing one run and striking out six of Toronto’s batters.
The bottom of the ninth was packed with suspense, having a Blue Jays runner on second and third and no outs, ending with the Dodgers, who caused a game-ending double play.
Hernández played a key part by catching a line drive and throwing to Dodgers Player Miguel Rojas.
The Dodgers triumphed over the Blue Jays with a score of 5-4 across eleven innings to be declared champions of the World Series for the second year in a row.
The Dodgers edged out the Blue Jays 5-4 in eleven innings to win the championship.
The Blue Jays took the lead early in the third inning with Blue Jays player Bo Bichette hitting a home run to give Toronto a 3-0 lead.
The Dodgers kept narrowing the margin until Dodgers Player Max Muncy hit a home run in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-3, going into the last inning and a half.
The Dodgers secured an equalizer in the ninth when Rojas hit a home run to force the extra inning.
To secure the win in the top of the eleventh inning, Smith hit a home run for Los Angeles, making history as the first extra-inning home run in a game seven.
Sunnyslope Softball Coach Michael Fenton said, “Canada has teams, the US has teams, they bring people up throughout the year, and the Dodgers have a pitcher that’s also a designated hitter and plays in the field, there’s so many aspects to it, but when you watch, and you hear all the stories of how everybody gets there and what it takes, it makes for a crazy fun game to watch.”
This year’s World Series was packed with suspenseful and thrilling games.
ESPN said, “It was the greatest World Series because of its compelling story lines, some of which were impossible to believe: an 18-inning game, a historic pitching performance by a 22-year-old, the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history, the first World Series game to begin with back-to-back home runs, the first game-ending, 7-4 double play in World Series history. A masterpiece featuring an unforgettable, pitching performance that we might never see again.”
Thus, this World Series will not just be remembered for all the record-setting moments, but also for the resilience both teams showed, with the Dodgers winning back-to-back years and the Blue Jays surprising everyone with how far they have come since the previous season.
