The last class of the day everyone is tired and ready to go home. Learning a new language is not everyone’s cup of tea but one teacher makes it a lot more fun for everyone involved. Like playing UNO or making a group project about a country this class has it all.
Learning about the geography of South America and making books are just a few examples of all the great things happening in Heather Wilk’s Spanish 3-4 Class: creating a fun learning environment for Freshman as well as Seniors.
Wilk’s classroom is a place where students begin to understand the Spanish language through stories as well as videos and sometimes books.
This class is like stepping onto the streets of Madrid without leaving your seat, Wilk consistently pushes students farther than they think that they can go and when conversations flow it’s just like being in Spain.
Wilk has a way of making Spanish interactive and fun and less about just learning grammar rules. There are not many assignments other than tests. If you listen and pay attention all week in class you’ll be fine on the test. This means that on the paper assignments that you do get it is necessary to complete them and finish them on time. She constantly is pushing students to use what they know and often many students are surprised at how much they know about the Spanish language. “Ms. Wilk has the best classroom environment,” Sophomore Matilda Moore said. Other students spoke about how helpful she was “Ms. Wilk has taught me so much more Spanish I feel like I can actually have a conversation with somebody in Spanish,” Sophomore Violet Stanten said. Other students just liked being in the class this year “I loved Spanish this year because of the people in the class as well as Ms. Wilk just being an amazing teacher,” Sophomore Preston Fuller Said.
Everyone that takes Spanish at Sunnyslope will definitely benefit from having Ms. Wilk whether it is in 3-4 or even 1-2. If you know an incoming Freshman or even Sophomores make sure to try and get Ms.Wilk!
