Lights, camera, action! Students engulfed in the world of theater. The air is filled with the laughter of performances, groups of students dancing, and the comfort of knowing that you aren’t the only one doing this. You get to be hands on in this class from learning how to operate behind the scenes to performing under the bright stage lights. You are allowed as much creative freedom as you need.
These interactions and performances are key examples of what a student will experience in Theater Teacher Madeline McDonald’s Theater 1-2 Class: Bringing the classroom to life.
McDonald’s class is a place where students get to be their weird authentic self; they get to dance, act, and learn about the history of theater. Theater helps students grow as a whole.
This class is like being a part of a sports team. You are faced with challenges you have to overcome in order to succeed. You have overcome your fears and get along with others in order to be the best you can be. McDonald is the coach who puts people together so she knows they will go perfectly together. She builds a team that works.
McDonald always has an uplifting attitude towards everyone. She can be strict and put people in their place when she needs to, so you don’t want to be caught slacking off. She makes sure that everyone participates in everything. She also helps people gain self confidence and that they are always putting themselves out there.
“[Mrs. McDonald] helps us understand a lot letting us be independent so we can grow and learn from our mistakes,” Freshman Amelia Gerdes said.
Others have commented on how the class is as a whole.
“It was fun, but there’s a lot of work, [you also need] to get over [your] fear of public speaking,” Freshman William Ross said.
Other students went on to explain how the class helped them outside in the real world.
“[She] helped me become a better person. [I] took [the] class to help with [my] fear of public speaking,” Freshman Logan said.
Every student who has taken her class has said nothing but amazing things about her. She brings the good out of people and she always makes sure you are having a good time. If you are still looking to see what electives to choose, make sure to consider Theater 1-2 as an option.
