Many people in power have attributes that make them appealing to others.
Presidents being charming, teachers being compassionate, and Lukas Lira being called disciplined by his fellow bandmates.
Lira is a Senior at Sunnyslope Highschool and is the Drum Major of the Sunnyslope band.
Being the Drum Major of a band involves many challenges, as he must lead the band with confidence and great skill.
When asked how Lira handles being the Drum Major while also juggling school life, he said, “It’s honestly pretty difficult keeping up with both school and the band, but what makes it easier is the cohesiveness of the two.”
Lira is in an AP class, which can contribute to the overwhelmingness of the two.
When asked what the role of Drum Major consists of, he said, “There is time to be productive but there’s also time to have fun. With that, as a drum major, I’ve made thousands of mistakes, but what I have learned most from those mistakes is that no amount of frustration or difficulty can stop a band from improving.”
Making those mistakes is what pushed him to want to grow as a person and help the band as a whole even more.
Lira has proven to be hardworking, according to band director, Stephen Alguire.
There are many people who have helped contribute to Lira’s success, and Alguire is one of these whom Lira looks up to.
“Since I was a freshman, Alguire has always done his best to facilitate a band that is proud of its product.”
He also goes on to say that, “I’m not sure how Mr. Alguire does it, but he is a prime example of leadership.”
His fellow bandmates have great things to say about Lira.
Bandmate Grant Robinson says that Lira is “a great fit for being the drum major” and that he is “great at keeping our band on time.”
Andrew Deyette also said amazing things about Lira and his leadership skills.
“Leadership extends beyond conducting, as Lukas is a liaison between Mr. Alguire and the members of the band,” said Deyette.
This just goes to show the type of person Lira is as a Drum Major, but also as a friend and fellow student.
Lira is a great role model for people in the band and outside of it.
“He is such a nice and fun person,” said Freshman Lucy Keturatana, “He is so confident.”
Although Lira’s title in the band is Drum Major, he is known for more than his talents he has in the band.
People see him as kind, hardworking, intelligent, and a leader more than anything.
Lira’s English Teacher says that “Lukas comes to class always ready to share with his group members and doesn’t hesitate to share his interpretations”.
It’s safe to say that the role of Drum Major was given to the perfect candidate.
