Recent research has proven that the thing people carry closest to them is actually harmful.
The FDA has recently taken down old webpages that stated how cellphones are not dangerous.
Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, an avid supporter of the “Make America Healthy Again” movement, has recently shown his concern about cellphone use being linked to neurological damage as well as cancer.
In the past year, the U.S. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) stated that 22 states have started to ban cellphone use in schools due to this discovery of radiation. This is all in the hope to better children’s mental and physical health.
Radiation has dangerous effects that damage living tissue by ionizing atoms, breaking DNA bonds, and creating free radicals that cause cellular dysfunction or death.
HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon told NBC News, “The FDA removed webpages with old conclusions about cell phone radiation while HHS undertakes a study on electromagnetic radiation and health research to identify gaps in knowledge, including on new technologies, to ensure safety and efficacy.”
Nixon also told NBC News,“The study was directed by President Trump’s MAHA Commission in its strategy report.”
Presently, the websites of agencies such as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the FDA state that there is currently no credible proof that points to health issues due to cellphone radiation.
However, this might raise some concern among the general public about which phones are actually putting people at risk due to radiation.
While mixed messages are being communicated, and as uncertainty continues, Slope students have developed curiosity about the topic.
Sophomore Franny Murphy said, “I feel that the risks may be exaggerated, but at the same time, the amount of time we spend on our phones can accentuate the amount of problems it can cause to us as humans.”
“It’s good to be informed on what could harm us,” Murphy said.
Sophomore Vega Horne said that some changes students should make are “[trying] not being on your phone as much… not being on your phone at night, [and] not [sleeping] with your phone in your bed, just trying to distance yourself from your phone.”
For now, all we can know is that there isn’t a link between cell phone use and cancer in humans, and that the radiation emitted from cell phones is too weak to be harmful to humans.
Due to Robert F. Kennedy’s public concern at the CDC about how cell phones possibly cause neurological damage and cancer, the United States Department of Health and Human Services is now looking deeper into the research of cellphone radiation for the greater good of humanity and their overall health.
