The calm classroom buzzes with conversation as students settle into their seats, ready for another engaging lesson in English Teacher Kevin Woods’ class. His laid-back and friendly personality makes the room feel welcoming, while his clear teaching style keeps every student focused and learning. The assignments are challenging enough to make students think deeply, but never overwhelming or impossible. Vocabulary quizzes are a great example of what goes on throughout the day in Woods’ class, pushing students to memorize definitions while also helping them along the way with solid examples and keywords. Mr. Woods’ class is a perfect balance of a relaxed environment and meaningful education.
This class is like playing volleyball on a nice sunny beach. You enjoy the calm breeze and the sound of the waves, relaxing and having fun while also concentrating on the volleyball match, pushing yourself to focus and think.
Woods has a very welcoming class; he is a kind but demanding teacher. He doesn’t ask for much, but when he assigns something, he wants you to do your best. His assignments are far from difficult, but they still push students to think critically. He rarely assigns homework, and most of the time, students simply take home whatever they did not finish in class. He is understanding with late work and very patient, but he still expects students to follow the class rules. He is always making jokes and helping out whenever someone needs it. Woods was also named the All-Region Baseball Coach.
“Coach Woods was the All-Region coach for a reason,” said Junior Kaiko Wyrybkowski. Other students also spoke about their experiences in his class. “It’s the kind of class where you learn without realizing it,” said Junior Chase Stephens. Sophomore Serenity Dale said, “Mr. Woods is one of the best teachers I’ve had. He showed me ways to express myself and my creativity more through my writing and never failed to make me enjoy his class.”
Students frequently mentioned his relaxed and positive energy in class. “No matter the day, he always brought energy, jokes, and a teaching style no other teachers had. He was also a very relatable guy,” said Junior Chase Stephens. “Although I don’t have his class anymore, he’ll always be my favorite teacher from high school,” Sophomore Serenity Dale said.
Woods clearly cares about his students’ education as well as their well-being, creating a warm and welcoming environment for everyone in his class. The only reason someone might not enjoy his class is if they struggle to follow the rules and expectations he sets. I would highly recommend taking his class; any 8th grader would be lucky to haveWoods as a teacher.
