As you walk into the class, students are engaged in group reading or working on a project together. These are the things that make students feel comfortable and not bored in class. While in the morning, many students may feel unmotivated or tired, the experiences and work in this class are a good way to get your day started. Writing and reading can be seen as not a fun thing to do for many. Kevin Woods’ English 1-2 class can change that narrative for those students. He makes the learning environment feel relaxing and helps them reach their full potential when completing things.
Woods’s class is a place where students can feel motivated and relaxed to practice their writing and reading skills, along with socializing in lots of group work. This class can feel, at times, like a friend hangout around a campfire. Woods allows many to feel laid back during classroom activities. This goes a long way for many who can struggle in a loud learning environment. Woods won’t ever judge you for questions you may have or for struggling on assignments. He is there to help whoever could potentially need it.
Woods is also the head baseball coach and has helped them improve their win total this past season by seven games. Woods shows his belief that anyone can do well in his class. “Mr. Woods has helped me regain my joy for writing assignments, as I now finish them on time,” fFreshman Petros Economopoulos said. Others described how fun his class was. Freshman Dane Plote said, “I love how he allows us to read in groups. It helps me understand and learn about the book more with the extra help.” Another student explained how helpful Woods was when he was struggling.
“He has made me realize that when I try, I can do well on English assignments and is always there when I ask for help,” fFreshman Van Rejebian said.
A very good amount of students will tell you this class is nothing like a boring, typical English class. It can be a reason to enjoy school and look forward to it. If you know an 8th grader, be sure to let them know to request Kevin Woods. He will make the subject a lot easier and more enjoyable.
